The Governing Body of Orchard Community Primary School is made up of one staff governor, one local authority governor, four parent governors and seven co-opted governors. The Headteacher also sits on the Governing Body.
The Governing Body is chaired by Mrs. Vanessa Jones and the Vice Chair is Mrs. Janet Mortensen. Mrs Rachel Daft is the clerk to the Governing Body.
The Governing Body meets seven times per year, once per half term plus a diary and procedural meeting. It also has three main committes and a pay committee to which it delegates areas of responsibility.
The Committes are
Finanace and Personnel Committee, chaired by Mrs. Janet Mortensen.
Curriculum and Pastoral Committee, chaired by Mr. Richard Neal
Learning Environment Committee, chaired by Mr. Paul Glover
Pay Committee, chaired by Mrs. Janet Mortensen
The Governing Body has a strategic role and doesn't get involved in operational matters like teaching and timetabling - these are the responsibility of the Headteacher. The Governing Body holds the Headteacher to account for her decisions.
The Governing Body has three main functions:
1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
2. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
The Governing Body holds the headteacher to account by monitoring and asking appropriate questions. This often includes visiting the school to look at specific areas like safeguarding or behaviour.
