Class 9 - Y6
Welcome to Class 9
Class 9 are an enthusiastic Y6 class who love learning! Our class teacher is Miss Millard and we are very fortunate to also have the support of Mr Webb and Miss Jackson.
We are incredibly proud to be a part of Orchard Primary school and we are determined to show our best in all that we do and be the best that we can be. In Y6 we strive to always show kindness, respect, determination, perseverance, and hard work: believing that with these in mind, we will be successful and happy learners.
One of things we love best about being in Y6 is having more responsibility within the school community. We really enjoy our various roles within school, showing what fantastic role models we can be for the rest of the school.
Please have a look at the ‘End Of Year Expectations’ leaflet below to see what skills and knowledge we should have acquired by the end of the year.
What Are Class 9 Learning About This Year?
We enjoy learning through a creative curriculum and are really inspired by our current topic – The Groovy Greeks. Throughout our topic, we will be developing our skills as historians, geographers, musicians and artists.
As part of our learning in English, we are really enjoying reading The Odyssey by Homer, re-told by Geraldine McCaughrean. Exploring the book - along with Greek myths, videos clips and images - is really helping us develop our reading skills. As writers, we are learning how to write a persuasive text (hopefully enticing the reader to visit modern-day Greece!), a discussion text about slavery in Ancient Greek society and personification poems inspired by Pandora’s Box.
In Maths, we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme of Learning which is supporting us in becoming confident and competent mathematicians.
Many of us enjoy taking part in within the wider school life by taking part in extra-curricular activities. These include clarinet, piano and guitar lessons, choir, bowls and other sports clubs.
