Pupil Absence

Day to day pupil absences

If your child is absent from school, please report the absence to the office as soon as possible. Please let us know your child’s name, class and a brief explanation for their absence by telephone. Unexplained absences will be followed up by a text message.

We monitor children's attendance and if your child's attendance level is not sufficient, the headteacher may request a meeting with you to allow us to find strategies to ensure they are in school.

Regular attendance at school is important to ensure your child gets the most from their education.

Planned absences

In line with current guidance, the headteacher is not able to authorise absence for the purposes of a family holiday except in exceptional circumstances. If you are planning to take your child out of school, we request that you send a letter to the headteacher giving the dates of absence and a brief explanation for the absence. The headteacher will let you know if the absence can, or cannot, be authorised.

The School and its staff regard the regular attendance of children at school as being vital to each child’s education and development.  It is for this reason that non attendances (however short or infrequent) are treated seriously.  It remains the policy of the school to only sanction non-attendance during term time in exceptional circumstances.

If your child has unauthorised leave of absence you may either be issued with a Penalty Notice of £120 per parent per child (discounted to £60 if paid within 21 days), or, your case could be referred by the Local Authority directly to the Magistrates' Court for the purposes of a criminal prosecution.
