Transition information

Pupils starting in Foundation Stage at Orchard Primary 2020-21

Firstly, welcome to Orchard Primary. We look forward to meeting you all soon. Over the past weeks we have sent a number of letters, forms and information documents home.

Mrs McGravie and Mr Owen look forward to welcoming all the pupils into their new classes in the Autumn term. In the meantime, please have a look at our 'Welcome' presentation which will tell you lots of information about the school and our Foundation Stage Unit. Click here to access the presentation.

Pupils Moving to their New Classes 2020-21
Normally at this time of year, we would be carrying out a number of transition activities for the children, including visits to their new classrooms, meeting their new teachers and teaching assistants, and finding out about the year ahead. The staff would also be learning all about the children in their new classes and getting to know them before the summer holidays!

Unfortunately, we’re not able to do that this year. Therefore, instead, our teachers are busy creating some teacher profiles and information to send home to you soon. We have also sent out some documents for your child to fill in, to let their new teachers know more about them! Some of the children in school have been completing them here.

It is very normal that children might feel anxious about coming back to school and starting a new class, especially if they haven’t been back to school this half term and have had such a significant time away from school. To support your child before the start of the new term, please find below a host of resources that you can use with your child to reassure them about going back to school. Some of the resources focus on the safety aspects, for any children who are worried about Coronavirus; others focus on the transition to a new class and what that will be like. Many of the resources take the format of social stories; these present information in a visual, child-friendly way and can help children to understand and remember things.

The resources can be found by clicking here: Transition Resources

If you are concerned about your child’s return to school and would like any advice or support, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s current or new class teacher via Class Dojo before the end of term. The last thing we want is for our pupils to be worrying over the summer.
