Class 5 (Year 3 & 4)

Welcome to Class 5
The Class 5’s teacher is Miss Walters and we are very fortunate to also have the support of Miss Smith and Mr Morant. We are extremely excited to get to know and work with your child.

In Class 5, we love learning and having fun and it is our duty to ensure that your children crave the excitement of learning new things and enjoy coming to school each day. In a supportive and caring environment, the children are challenged to continue to build on their learning skills in order to achieve their potential through our exciting creative curriculum.  Each child is encouraged to ‘have a go’ even if they are not sure - we believe that practice really does make perfect. We will continue to embed our ‘creative curriculum’ and create new and exciting opportunities for your children to thrive in a range of topics. Additionally, we will be focussing on becoming kind, respectful individuals, to make Class 5 a positive learning environment for everyone to enjoy.

Your child will be encouraged to develop their character muscles throughout Year 3 and 4 so that they can fulfil their learning adventures. We will learn how to recognise and celebrate our own and others’ unique character strengths and use these to work as a team in the classroom.

We cannot wait to work hard, have fun and get to know each other. With help from you at home, we know this year is going to be an absolutely amazing one!

Please have a look at the ‘End of Year Expectations’ leaflets attached below to give you an idea of the skills and knowledge your child should be able to achieve by the end of Year 3 and 4

Homework Menu & Homework Books
Each half term, children are given a new ‘Homework Menu’ from which they can select a specific number of activities to complete from the different areas of learning.

They can present their work in their homework book by either drawing/writing directly onto the paper or by sticking in printed sheets or photographs. Homework books should be returned to school during the last week of each half term.

There is a lot of choice on each menu and we really hope that pupils have fun working on their chosen projects!

Knowledge Organiser
A Knowledge Organiser is a go-to document for a topic/unit of work: each one identifies the key information that children need to have learned by the end of a topic. It also acts as a tool to support children in retaining and retrieving knowledge for life-long learning.

We have developed our own Knowledge Organisers to support the delivery of the curriculum, with each one starting with knowledge children should already know from previous learning. Each organiser also has a quiz to help children recall the knowledge and a list of technical vocabulary with definitions.
